Airline tickets can be purchased at most travel agencies or directly from the airline. Tickets can be purchased directly from the airline over the phone or over the internet, and paper tickets will be mailed or you can pick them up at an airport ticket office.

E-Tickets: Most airlines offer "E-tickets", which are paperless (electronic) reservations and tickets combined. You don't need anything until you check into the airport gate for your flight. At that point, you need to show your identification and you will receive a boarding pass.

TYPTip: Check ticket prices to the same destination from different NYC airports. Even for the same airline, they can vary greatly between airports. This is due to airlines charging different rates depending upon the amount of competition to a particular destination.

TYPTip: There are several websites offering good discounts on tickets. If you are flexible about what airline you use, and especially if you are flexible about the time and date you fly, you can get some great deals from internet discounters. See Discount Airline Tickets.
